Top 5 European Honeymoon Destinations

The ironic thing about getting married is that, despite the event celebrating the union of you and your partner, you can actually spend very little time with your spouse-to-be in the run up to the day. You have so much to do that finding time to be with each other often falls by the wayside. Your honeymoon is a fantastic opportunity to spend your days enjoying the company of your new life partner in a destination you’ve both always wanted to visit.

Europe is home to a number of beautiful cities that would be perfect for a honeymoon. Whether you are looking for romance, scenery, or exciting activities, you will find plenty of unique towns and cities across the continent. Here are our top five European honeymoon destinations, with recommended activities in each location.

1. Venice

An architectural wonder, Venice — the city built on water — gained its historic wealth through producing the world’s greatest warships, and used that money to build some of the most beautiful palaces and cathedrals in existence. The city’s many secret passageways, fantastical festivals and unconventional traditions make Venice one of the weirdest and most wonderful destinations in the world — exploring it with our partner will be an unforgettable experience.

2. Brno

While many wishing to visit the Czech Republic will consider Prague the most likely destination, the nation’s second-largest city, Brno, is famed for its experimental architecture and exquisite food and drink. The historical tradition of wine making is still embraced by the locals, and the Pod Radničním kolem remains as one of the city’s most esteemed wine cellars, with an equally-celebrated restaurant to accompany it.

3. Amsterdam

Amsterdam is famed not only for its liberal culture and the many quirky bars and shops that decorate the city, but also for its rich history and iconic landmarks. Spend your mornings taking in the local sites and attractions, such as the Anne Frank House which is both an educational and humbling experience. You may find that your afternoons and evenings will slip away in the city’s local coffee shops, where there is plenty of food, drink, and entertainment on offer. Don't forget, Amsterdam is also famed for it's many diamond jewellers. No trip would be complete without a little diamond window shopping, right?

4. Vienna

The Austrian capital city of Vienna is so beautiful and picturesque that the whole city centre is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The famous blue Danube river that bisects the city offers a fantastic opportunity to experience Vienna from the water, and this river cruise from The River Cruise Line offers the opportunity to do just that.

5. Paris

Paris: the city of love. This destination is famed for its romantic culture, relaxed atmosphere and beautiful architecture — everything from beautiful cathedrals to iconic structures such as the Eiffel Tower. The pyramid-shaped entrance to the Louvre museum is a relatively new addition to the city, and offers a great opportunity for you to see many of the world’s most-celebrated artworks. For some real romance, why not take a stroll through bohemian Montmatre, home to the majestic Sacre Coeur cathedral, and perfect for getting lost amonst the artsy boutiques, bars and bistros.

Wherever you choose to visit on your honeymoon, just be sure to smother your new partner with affection, and take the time to remember why you fell in love in the first place.
