5 Things Every Bridesmaid Should Know

Finding out that you are going to be a bridesmaid is a very exciting thing, but sometimes it can be a scary feeling as well. Just the thought of all the responsibilities that come with the role can get really overwhelming, especially if this is your first time. But like everything in life, all you can do is give your best and hope it will turn out great. There are a few cardinal rules of being a bridesmaid though, which if you try to remember, even in the harder moments, you will be just fine!

1.     Be Available.

The Bride-to-Be chose you because she trusts you. Chances are you have shared great years of a strong, memory filled friendship, so take this as just another time in your life where you have to be there for her. Planning a wedding is not easy and your friend really needs you to help her out with all the errands she does not have enough time for or cannot do on her own. Take this seriously and make time for her. You may not be able to attend everything, but you should try to do so. It is important for her therefore it is for you also – as her bridesmaid.

2.     Be empathetic and keep calm

Whilst your friend may not be a bridezilla, most brides can and will have some out of character moments and feel completely stressed out. As the good bridesmaid that you are, be sure to listen to what she needs to say and be empathetic. Remember this is not personal towards you; it’s just that she is dealing with a lot and she needs you. This does not mean that you should let her mistreat you, but a few “manic” moments are okay. You may also find yourself in a similar situation in the future, so just remember that this is her big day and you play a big role in it, so take a deep breath, smile and keep going.

3.     Organise a great hen party

The best part about being a bridesmaid is by far organising the hen do. This event is incredibly important because it is the last time your friend will go out as a bachelorette, and things are about to get a whole lot more serious for her after the wedding. It’s true that organising a hen do can be very stressful, but you can get a lot of help from agencies in the know, such as Hen Heaven, who will aid you in planning it from start to finish! But just keep in mind that this weekend means a lot for your friend so respect her wishes on what she wants and what she doesn’t. If she specifically says no stripper, don’t even think about it. Give her what she wants and make sure she has the best time.

4.     Document the special moments

What you two will share in the pre wedding process will be a very special time for your friendship and in your life. Take plenty of photos of cute, funny, amazing, sad, teary and ecstatic moments and put them in a beautiful album, which you can both refer back to at . She will absolutely love this gift, because nobody else will be able to share those important moments with her, but you: her bridesmaids! Don’t forget to take a few videos too and make it even more memorable!

5.     Have fun and enjoy the ride

Buckle up and get ready for the ride because it’s going to be an eventful time for you. Now that we discussed the stressful factors, look at the positives, because there sure are plenty more! You will get to organise some great activities such as her hen do; you will dance together, have late boozey nights that end in heart to hearts, tears of joy and all the rest… Chances are there will be some embarrassing yet hilarious stories after the wedding takes place, so be sure to enjoy every moment of it. You were chosen for a reason, so enjoy yourself and own it!
