Top Tips For Keeping Your Guests Cool During A Heatwave

As British weather continues to be very un-British this Summer and gracing us with lots of sun and at some points extreme heat, it’s an important thing to think about if your wedding happens to fall on one of those heatwave days.

Whilst we are very much used to preparing for rain and showers, too much sun can cause an equal amount of problems, so it’s crucial to be prepared.

Below are some of the things to bear in mind and additions you might need to make to your wedding day.

Make up and hair

When it comes to make up and hair, there’s lots of clever tips and tricks for keeping things fixed in place. Everything from waterproof options to long-lasting cream formulas and fixative sprays can do the trick, so be sure to ask your hair and make up artist about this. Keep SPF and pressed powder handy throughout the day, so you’re able to apply as and when you need to.

Cool and comfy clothing

Whilst hopefully you’ve chosen a dress that is suitable for the Summer season, encourage guests to wear floaty and cool dresses and potentially looser shirts to help ensure they don’t overheat. If it is due to be particularly hot in the evening, you may want to buy a second lighter dress for the after-dinner entertainment.

Offer chilled soft drinks

Due to the heat, you and your guests might want to alternate between enjoying alcoholic beverages and soft drinks too. With this in mind, be sure to have lots of lovely alcohol free drinks in the mix so they can keep hydrated.

Hydration station

Keep water readily available by creating a dedicated ‘hydration station’ that you keep constantly topped up throughout the day so people can grab a glass of water as and when they need. Lots of couples make a statement of it and pop the water in a nice vessel and add a pretty sign too.

Guests can often get quite hot in the ceremony so if budget is available, it’s a good idea to provide them with bottles of water and hand fans on their seats.

Provide shade

Make sure there are lots of shady spots around your venue meaning that people can still enjoy the outdoors whilst still remaining out of the sun. These could be created in the form of marquees, gazebos and parasols or if weather is particularly hot, consider moving outdoor activities inside.

Think about vulnerable guests

Finally, make sure someone is keeping an eye on vulnerable guests, such as children, the elderly and pets. Ensure that they are keeping hydrated and they’ve got lots of water available to them. It’s also important you keep an eye out for suppliers as through doing their job, they often have no choice but to be out in the sun.
