How To Word Your Wedding Invitations
Wedding invitations are a fantastic first opportunity to set the tone for your wedding. It’s the first physical thing (besides Save The Dates, if you send them) that your guests will see, and is a chance to introduce them to your wedding day style. How you choose to word your wedding invitations plays a key role in this introduction.
The wording of a wedding invitation can indicate two important things; how formal the day is going to be, and who is hosting the wedding.
If guests receive a formally worded invitation, they are likely to expect a traditional, formal wedding (read: hat wedding!). If, on the other hand, guests receive an informally written, quirky invitation, they are likely to expect something a little more relaxed.
Traditionally, as the parents of the Bride were expected to host the wedding, invitations would be written by and sent from them. Nowadays, however, it’s far more common for the couple to host themselves, and so it’s not necessary to include any parents in the invitation unless you’d really like to.
When it comes to wording your invitations, there are no longer any particular rules to follow, but there are certain elements which you probably will include:
1. Who's hosting the wedding
2. Who's getting married
3. Where
4. When
The exact words, order and style you choose to present this information are entirely up to you!
If, however, you’d like a bit of guidance and inspiration, here are some suggested ways to word your wedding invitations, demonstrated on the beautiful, customisable wedding invitation templates available on Vistaprint.
