Many of our designers offer a full wedding stationery suite, from save the date cards and invitations, to menus and thank you cards. If the budget is tight, why not consider DIY wedding invitations too? If you’ve just begun to look for wedding stationery ideas, this is a great place to start!

We’ve split the stationery into categories to create a smooth planning experience. You can search through everything our suppliers have to offer and then contact the designer directly to order your products.

Here are our top tips on picking your wedding invitations:

1) Try and tie in the style of your invitations with the theme and character of your venue and your big day. If you’re planning a classic and elegant do then reflect this in your invitations. The same goes for festival weddings or more rustic and vintage festivities.

2) Think long and hard about your colours. It’s always a great opportunity to incorporate your wedding colours into your save the dates and invites. The same goes for the material you use. Are you after bright and colourful or metallic? What kind of thickness did you have in mind? The average wedding invitation thickness among WeddingPlanner couples is 120#. If you are thinking of printing your own invitations then do beware that many household printers are unable to cope with this thickness.

3) Have some fun with the size and shape. Maybe you want invitations that are 3D popouts or have several folds. Or perhaps the more traditional and more formal square or rectangular invites are your style.

4) Make sure they’re easy to read. A pet peeve in particular for colourblind folk! Nothing worse than green invitation with red writing. If you want to make sure your guests are time then don’t allow for any typos especially with addresses or timings. You don’t want your guests arriving as the ceremony is ending.

5) Become a real wordsmith. There are well-established rules as to which names come first on the invitations. Typically, whoever is the host comes first on the invitation. Try and include as much important information as possible and don’t forget to actually invite the recipient with something along the lines of “so and so request the honour of your presence at…”. Don’t overcrowd the invite with too much information.

6) Whether you’re sending printed save the dates or digital versions, you might want to get these out as soon as you’ve booked the venue. Your physical and more formal invitations should be going out at least 3-6 months before the the actual wedding.

7) Get your costs straight. The average Wedding Planner couple spend £1.50 per invite. When you think of the cost of postage too, this can really add up. You’ll that prices vary significantly and that usually reflects the amount of work required to create your invitations along the quality of the card. It’s always worth getting a professional to address your envelopes too. The envelope really is the first impression so if you don’t like your own scrawl and or don’t fancy writing out multiple addresses then hire someone on taskrabbit who has nice handwriting to address these for you. It’s cheaper than you think!

8) Save ink and paper on households. Sometimes 1 invite will do for a whole family. Be sure too that you’ve double checked your invites and envelopes, once they’ve been sent there’s no going back!

9) Make sure you order an extra bunch of invites just in case you make any silly mistakes.

10) Don’t forget your menus, place cards and thank you cards too. It makes sense that these match the style of your invitations so why not get these sorted and ordered at the same time? You’ll be glad to have these sorted too and that’s something else you can tick off your list.
