Romantic honeymoon in Canada

After a successful wedding, a spectacular honeymoon is of course a must. One of the best destinations for an unforgettable honeymoon is Canada. The country is brimming with romance and endless possibilities. Dive into nature, go on a romantic cruise, or dream away hand in hand in fairy tale villages and cities.

Visa Canada

Before you can start your honeymoon in Canada, it is important that you have a valid visa. Travellers from the UK and Ireland can easily apply online for the eTA Canada, instead of a visa. The eTA is digitally linked to the passport and checked at the airport check-in. The eTA must therefore be applied for and approved before travel.

Honeymooning through the landscape of Alberta

Adventurous honeymoon

Canada's national parks on the west coast of British Columbia in particular have plenty to offer to energetic couples. You can stay in hotels or lodges all year round, and for the sporty honeymooners there are (sporty) challenges enough. Think for example of active walking holidays, mountain biking, horse riding and white water rafting.

With a little luck, you will come face-to-face (from a safe distance) with moose, wolves, grizzly bears and brown bears and maybe even a puma or two. Tofino, on the west coast of Vancouver Island, is particularly popular with surfers. Visits are best from September to November, although you can also 'cocoon' together in between the winter storms.

Seen the light?

At Quadra Island, about a 5-hour ferry ride from Vancouver across the Straits of Georgia, you can kayak at sunset. The sunset here provides a softer, romantic light on the forests and mountains you paddle past together. An experienced guide will show you the way and acquaint you with the wildlife in the area. In the more northern area around Whitehorse, in (The) Yukon, there is an even more special light to see. From mid-August to mid-April, especially during the first weeks of winter, there is a chance to see aurora borealis, the Northern Lights. For the luxury edition with elaborate dinners in advance and seat heating on swivelling panoramic chairs, you go to Aurora Village in the Northwest Territories.

Canadian Rockies or Newfoundland and Labrador?

Is your love strong enough for a romantic and adventurous road trip through fairytale-like winter landscapes? Then consider visiting Alberta. From Calgary, you can drive via Banff National Park and Jasper National Park through the Canadian Rockies to Edmonton. Skiing is possible at the enchantingly beautiful glacier lake of Lake Louise. From early December, the lake usually freezes over and becomes one of the world's largest natural ice-skating rinks. Day trips and overnight trips to these parks are also possible. Prefer to be completely 'alone' together? On the east coast of Canada, in the middle of the nature of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, you will find plenty of peace and quiet, but also a naturally warm-hearted local population. The Gros Morne National Park on the west coast of the island of Newfoundland is highly recommended for its spectacular scenery. The small village of Port Rexton on the east coast of the island has an old-fashioned kind of charm due to its typically coloured American-colonial salt box houses and the soothing view of a glittering Atlantic Ocean.

Picturesque villages and romantic cities

Exploring picturesque villages hand in hand? Both Niagara Falls, a popular destination among newly-weds on the eponymous border river between Canada and America, and charming 19th-century Niagara-on-the-Lake are about a two-hour drive from Toronto. Parlez-vous Français? Speak the language of love in European-style Montreal in the predominantly French-speaking Quebec. There are plenty of romantic spots to discover, such as in the local Little Italy and along the Saint Lawrence River. Choose, for example, a sunset cruise. In summer, this city also has a lively outdoor partner dance culture. Follow the river 3 hours northeast to Quebec City, one of the oldest cities in North America and, according to some, Canada's most romantic city. The Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has plenty of quaint bistros along cobblestone streets and the imposing, castle-like Fairmont Château Frontenac.

Lifelong honeymoon

A valid eTA Canada allows you to travel to Canada an unlimited number of times for up to 5 years. Each stay may last up to 6 consecutive months. If that one honeymoon wasn't long enough, you have the option to go back for more adventures with your partner. What better way to celebrate your marriage than by going on honeymoons for the rest of your lives?
