About

Lickleyhead Castle is a 16th century, Grade A listed micro-wedding and accommodation venue set amid the rolling hills of rural Aberdeenshire.

The castle is exclusive use, meaning only your party and service providers will have access on your big day. We sleep 16 adults across 8 bedrooms in the castle. There is a cottage on the estate which sleeps 6 across 3 bedrooms, bringing the total we can sleep up to 22. Twelve acres of formal gardens and woodland surround the castle.

The castle was amazing far past our expectations. James, the manager was great, he met us there and gave us a tour which we needed greatly! We would have been lost without him. The rooms are gorgeous and large. We opted for a catering service service that was so convenient they were super friendly, kind, and great food.

We had planned to leave the castle and do little detours by the castle was so comfortable. No one wanted to leave once we got there.

We were looking for a venue that had character and offered the opportunity to avoid the "production line" style wedding format, and Lickleyhead offered us that. In addition we also wanted our immediate family to be able to stay all under one roof both before and after the wedding day. The castle slept all our guests comfortably, each one in a unique and quirky room, and plenty of communal lounges and spaces to gather and chat. We had a wedding meal for 25 which was probably the upper limit for the dining room, but it worked well and made for a great atmosphere. On the otehr nights we ate in the kitchen. There is not an option for dancing due to the historic surroundings but interestingly nobody missed this as part of the day. James and his staff played a pivotal part on the day by coordinating the furniture moves for the service and ensuring there were tables/candelabra's etc, and assisted with room queries. The castle organised a Piper and Makeup, as well as a fantastic Celebrant. It was a very memorable weekend for us and our families plus the opportunity to spend a few nights living in a castle!
