Jenny & Simon's Beautiful Roman Baths Wedding

Looking for a unique and fun wedding for all guests to remember, Jenny and Simon fully embraced the picturesque Roman Baths setting at sunset by opting for soft and delicate themes whilst also incorporating playful details, such as a Scalextric track, to reflect the laid back and playful nature of their relationship. The Great Bath proved itself to be a picture perfect venue for the ceremony with the couple saying their vows on the water’s edge with the gentle lighting of sunset giving the event an even more romantic feel.

To find out more about their special day and how everything came to be, we had a chat with the bride and groom…

The Couple

Jenny and Simon met on their first shift as Games Makers whilst volunteering in the Olympic Stadium during the London 2012 Paralympic Games. Shortly after the couple went on their first date in the City of Bath and have been together ever since despite this meaning a long-distance relationship.

The Proposal

“We were on holiday in St. Lucia and had just done snorkelling and a sunset cruise around the island when he got down on one knee and popped the question! He’d been carrying the ring around with him all holiday waiting for the perfect moment when it was just the two of us.”

Jenny and Simon have been lucky to travel to stunning locations around the world making it no surprise that their engagement took place abroad and lent itself seamlessly to the incorporation of a travel theme in their big day!

The Venue

Jenny and Simon got married on Saturday 29th of April with the ceremony taking place at the Roman Baths in the City of Bath.

“We’d stopped off here on our first weekend away together. It was such a unique venue, it ticked all the boxes. What tipped it for me though was the Sunset Package which meant I could get married outside (a dream of mine since I was a little girl) as the sun was setting – you can’t get more romantic than that! We both wanted a wedding that was unique and one that would be remembered by all of our family and friends for years to come! Getting married in such an unusual location meant our guests were in awe of their surroundings! We got married at sunset by The Great Bath so the torches were alight, making the whole evening very atmospheric. We then had a beautiful wedding breakfast along the terrace overlooking the Bath followed by a reception in the Reception Hall where we had a DJ and a Scalextric Track (which proved to be very popular – and not just with the boys!)”

The historic Roman Baths most certainly offer a unique outdoors experience; made even more memorable due to the availability of the Sunrise and Sunset packages, the open terrace, and the spacious Reception Hall.

The Dress

“On Mother’s Day, I went dress shopping in London with my mum and sister. We had an appointment in David’s Bridal in London and I thought I knew what style I wanted – simple and slim-line – something very different to what I ended up with! The shop assistant insisted we tried on this Vera Wang dress that was a full dress made of beautiful floaty organza material – even if it was just for a bit of fun! When I put the dress on and came out to show my mum and sister and saw myself in the mirror, we all knew how perfect it was. Even weirder, my fiancé and I’s song came on in the shop as I was walking out. It was the sign I’d found The One!”

The Décor

The couple wanted a bespoke and fun wedding that was very personal to them. The attention to detail was fabulous – from the delicate silhouettes which decorated the cake, to the wooden love heart confetti on the tables and Scalextric track in the Reception Hall.

“We both love to travel and have a bucket list of places we’re slowly ticking off – the table names were called after our favourite destinations. Each tier of the wedding cake was decorated to show the story of Jenny and Simon – from meeting in London, to becoming engaged in St. Lucia, to getting married in Bath.”

Favourite Moment

“We’d worked very hard on all the details and a lot of things were homemade to ensure the day was very personal to us so it’s impossible to pick just one moment! The whole day was perfect from start to finish and I couldn’t have wished for anything to be different.”

Advice to Future Couples

“Don’t stress about things going wrong – at the end of the day, if you have a marriage certificate to prove you’re husband and wife, mission accomplished! That’s the aim of a wedding day at the end of it all.”
