We booked our wedding at The Grand Hotel torquay 18 months prior to our big day. Having chosen the top package, we were safe in the knowledge that our day was going to be special. It included champagne toast, 3 course menu (with vegetarian option), either the night before at the hotel OR a luxury car pick up, table decorations & chair covers, room decorations, the DJ for the disco & a buffet.
We had a couple of meetings with The Grand, one with Nicola…who seemed to disappear…and the rest with Mitchell, who we simply could not fault. He picked up on every detail that we missed (and believe me there is so much to remember!), and gave excellent advice when needed. He was friendly, with a good sense of humour, and he made our day super special.
Our big day went without a problem, and this is mainly due to the diligence of the staff, and the fact that Mitchell was in charge of the entire days events. He is an absolute credit to the Richardson team.
Our ceremony was conducted in the 1881 restaurant, in front of the bay window, so the views were to die for. It was incredibly well organised and the decorations were brilliant. My husband and I entered the room at the same time from either end, and walked up the isle together. It couldn’t have been better.
After the ceremony, we were provided with cocktails on the terrace, which gave our wedding guests a fantastic chance to have a good chat. Canapés were also served on the terrace; tempura king prawns, chicken satays, smoke salmon on rye and mushroom arancini. This kept our guests going until the Wedding Breakfast.
Our formal photos were taken in the gardens at the Grand, which over look the entire bay. I’ve seen some previews, and the location is stunning. I’m so excited to see the rest of our photos. Inside there are also some fantastic locations for photos, such as the grand stair case in the lobby.
The Wedding Breakfast was the best meal I’ve had in my life. The chef was able to make 54 meals taste just like the one we had at our tasting session. All of our guests commented on how fantastic the food was. Service during the breakfast was top notch, nothing went unnoticed by the waiters, and Mitchell made sure that any special arrangements required during the day happened without incident.
The Evening Reception was also arranged by the Grand, in the Devonshire Suite. With private bar, dance floor and a stage for the DJ. Our cake (which was provided by M&S) was proudly displayed in the centre of the dance floor for the cutting. The DJ was professional, took requests, and made sure that he played a good variety of music for all of our guests.
The buffet was delicious, a fantastic array of sandwiches, and savoury nibbles (I would highly recommend the black pudding Scottish eggs). By the end of the evening it was hard to move from all the fantastic food. We also had a desert option of mango & passionfruit pavlova, which certainly proved popular.
The honeymoon suite, was, without a doubt, the best hotel room I could ever have wished to stay in. Comprising of 2 bedrooms (one en suite), a lounge, and a fantastic bathroom. The beds were certainly comfy, and after a day of standing up, walking and dancing, this was certainly welcomed. Breakfast the next morning, was fantastic, something that we’ve had before, as The Grand Hotel, is certainly one of our favourite places to stay.
To sum up, The Grand Hotel did a fantastic job looking after us on our special day, and the staff could not have been better.
A big thank you to Mitchell, who did a fabulous job looking after us, and ensuring that the day went smoothly. And a big thank you to Eva, Alex and not forgetting Suey, for making not only the day so special, but also the lead up to our special day. We not only have fantastic memories, but we also have friends for life at The Grand.
I would, without a shadow of a doubt, recommend The Grand Hotel for your special day.
